Working with Recycled Materials

Recycled Art Melbourne

I first started working with recycled materials whilst working on comunity art projects with kids.  My first major project was with the St Kilda Adventure Playground in 2007.  Working with these kids was amazing, we used marine ply that was about to be discarded by a local building site to create 3 murals.  Mixing paint together with old magazines, fabrics and tiles donated by a local tile factory what the kids came up with was brilliant.

Since this first project I have gone on to establish a business which predominately runs recycled art workshops and projects for festivals, schools, community organisations and corporations.  Its been amazing especially working with kids.  From running this business I have gain so much and now my own work is predominately made from recycled materials.

I have since my late teens/early 20's been invovled with various environmental and human rights groups both here and overseas whilst also trying to figure out how to use my art in a more productive manner when it comes to these issues.  Finally I feel I have found a way in which I can actually combine my love for the environment with my art in a postive and non-confrontational way which allows people from all walks of life, especially children to gain some insight into simple ways in which we can make a difference.  It gets people thinking including myself on how we can re-use various items instead of throwing them out to end up in landfill.  It has taught me so much and I know it will continue to do so.
